From Florence, the classic route to reach Chianti, San Gimignano, and Siena is the “Firenze-Siena superstrada.” However, I recommend taking the Chiantigiana road, starting from Antella. It’s a slightly longer, scenic route but well worth the detour.
When you go to San Gimignano, I recommend taking the scenic route that passes through Ulignano. The panoramic road between Ulignano and San Gimignano is breathtaking!
In San Gimignano, I recommend:
• Climbing the Torre Grossa,
• Strolling through the Rocca di Montestaffoli,
• And visiting the Church of Sant’Agostino.

• Don’t forget to enter the Duomo; the interior decorations are stunning, and don’t miss the Libreria Piccolomini on the left side.
• You can also climb to the top of the unfinished facade of the Duomo, the “Facciatone,” for a beautiful view from the top.
• I also recommend visiting the Church of San Domenico, where you can see the real head of Saint Catherine of Siena, who died in 1380.
• Go to the Piazza del Campo and visit the Palazzo Pubblico.
• And don’t forget to try the panforte, a Sienese specialty—it’s a medieval recipe with dried fruits, candied fruits, honey, and spices.
